No M8 junction or relief road for Fermoy – Cllrs seek solution to town’s traffic

The introduction of a Fermoy central interchange junction on the M8 Rathcormac-Fermoy Bypass is ‘not really possible’ while the Public Private Partnership (PPP) with Direct Route exists, according to Sean Callery of the National Roads Office.

A motion tabled at Tuesday’s meeting of the Fermoy Municipal District by councillors Noel McCarthy and Kay Dawson pointed to an article published in the Irish Examiner last month regarding An Bord Pleanála’s refusal of the same junction in 2002.

The local councillors sought that the council write to the Director of Roads to seek funding for a Fermoy central interchange, proposed between Junction 14 at Moorepark and Junction 15 at Corrin off the N72 near Fermoy Community Hospital.
