There’s no funding for traffic calming measures on the road in the vicinity of the Uplands and Baile Ard estate in Fermoy, the County Council’s Electoral Area Committee heard on Tuesday afternoon.

Cllr Frank O’Flynn had tabled a motion calling on Cork County Council to put traffic calming measures, including advance signage, in place in the interest of safety. The motion was supported by Cllr Noel McCarthy. Cllr O’Flynn pointed out that there are a number of young children living in the estates and residents had been onto him to have something done to improve safety.

Area engineer Brendan O’Gorman, said there are already warning signs on the road past the estate. Cllr O’Flynn asked if bigger ones could be put up. The engineer replied that he could look at having an additional ‘slow’ road marking put in.
