Minister for Agriculture, Simon Coveney, was on hand last Saturday to officially open the new Digger Park at Leahy's Open Farm in Dungourney.
This exciting attraction, which allows children safely operate a mechanical digger, is the latest innovation for this popular tourist attraction. Founded by Eddie and Eileen Leahy, the farm has expanded from modest beginnings to now include a museum, coffee shop, farm maze, crazy golf course, climbing tower and adventure trails, as well as accommodating a whole host of common and exotic creatures.
STRONG TEAM SPIRIT
Minister Coveney was glowing in his praise of what the Leahys had achieved over the last 20 years - their success, he said, was build around innovation, attention to detail and hard work. Ryan Howard, CEO with LEADER group, South & East Cork Area Development, who are long-standing supporters of the open farm, said Eddie and Eileen Leahy were exceptionally dedicated and determined people who didn't take no for an answer when they were pursuing an objective.
Eddie Leahy also spoke - in his contribution, Eddie said he was more than happy to hand over the day to day running of the open farm to the younger generation who he has every confidence in. Teresa Leahy said there was a great team spirit among everyone involved in the open farm.
AMBITIOUS PLANS
The beauty of the Leahy Open Farm project is that it appeals to all age groups and a visit is educational as well as entertaining. While hopes are high that the Digger Park will be a big hit, plans are already being drawn up for further expansion in the shape of a fully enclosed, child friendly play area.
The facility is open throughout the summer and individuals, families and larger groups are more than welcome. Further details can be had by contacting 086-8560461.
