A new national award for young film makers was announced in Dublin this week. The Young Film Maker Award is part of Better Together, a campaign that aims to highlight the work of Irish charities, clubs and associations.
Young film makers, between the ages of 13 and 18, are invited to enter short videos (no longer than two minutes) on the theme 'better together'. Entries can focus on: a social or environmental issue (for example bullying, discrimination, poverty or climate change); young people who are making a difference in the world around them or a local community group or club.
Entries must be submitted online at www.bettertogether.ie by 8 November, 2013. The public are invited to vote for their favourite entries until 22 November. The ten most popular videos will be shortlisted and a single winner will be announced at the Better Together Awards on 12 December at Dublin Castle. The winner or winners (if it is a group) will get an opportunity to rub shoulders with professional film makers at the Young Irish Film Makers Summer School in 2014.
The Better Together Campaign was developed by The Wheel, a national network representing over 930 charities, supported by many leading charities including Young Irish Film Makers, Spunout.ie, Young Social Innovators, the National Youth Council of Ireland, Irish Cancer Society, Enable Ireland, Focus Ireland and many others.
See www.bettertogether.ie/young-filmmakers for details.
