New bye-laws have now been agreed by Fermoy Town Council for Knockananaig reservoir to protect the amenity.

The bye-laws include the prohibition of fires, quad bikes and trail bikes, fishing from boats and camping. No horses are allowed on the site and there's to be no dog fouling. Flora and fauna are to be protected through a ban on cutting, burning or otherwise destroying plants. Any means of harming wildlife is similarly forbidden. A 'catch and release' rule is to operate in angling on the reservoir.

The bye-laws were adopted at the members recent meeting. Cllr. John Murphy took the opportunity to commend the FAS workers who do a great job up there, he said, cutting the grass, clearing rubbish and otherwise keeping the place looking its best. "It's a fantastic amenity in our town," he pointed out.
