A new business has opened up in Patrick Street, Fermoy. Called 'The Restore' it plans to breathe new life into old furniture by restoring pieces and rendering them more contemporary with new colours and designs.

The owners are Graham and Yvonne Farrar from Ballyduff, though Yvonne says it's Graham's baby. He previously worked installing kitchens and floors but, with the downturn in that line of work due to the recession, he's turned to something he has had an interest in for some time.

"Graham does all the hard work," Yvonne says, while she gets to indulge her love of colour and design in helping him to choose shades, material and fabrics. Yvonne has her own design and marketing business. Graham does all the restoration and painting of pieces himself.

People can buy items directly from the store or come to him with a well loved but tired looking piece for Graham to work his magic on. Examples of how well it works can be seen in the display pieces he has in the shop such as old fashioned china cabinets which have been revamped and painted in chic colours for a much more modern take on the classic design. The best example of all is the Farrar's shop counter which used to be their garage door and which they salvaged and ingenuously turned into a functional yet stylish counter.

It's taken three months preparation to get the shop ready. It opened last Saturday and feedback from customers so far has been excellent, they report. Graham is excited about his new business and is looking forward to getting it established in the weeks and months to come.
