Here is Mitchelstown’s oldest living son fulfilling his 101 birthday wish of catching salmon.

Lt Col Ned Cusack, who is originally from Killee, Mitchelstown having been born there in 1919, planned to celebrate the momentous occasion with a bout of angling in his adopted home of Galway.

Ned’s son Eamon said that it was his dad’s dream to fish for wild salmon on the River Corrib and on July 1 this year, he landed two beautiful wild salmon on the River Corrib at the Galway Fishery.

“Since his youth in Mitchelstown, Ned has been an avid angler. Since celebrating his 101st birthday on March 1 it has been his wish to once again land another salmon in the Galway Fishery.

“He achieved his goal by landing not one, but two beautiful wild salmon, 9 and 5.5 lbs respectively. Another amazing day in his long fishing career,” Eamon explained.
