Mitchelstown athlete Kotryna Pacerinskaite is celebrating this week as she returned home from the Athletics Ireland U20 Outdoor Championships with three medals following her successful run in the national competition last weekend.
She returned to base in Mitchelstown with a gold medal for her first-place position in the U20s women’s shot put, and two silver medals for both the hammer throw, and the ‘weight for distance’ competition.
Ms Pacerinskaite, who turned 18 in March, finished her Leaving Cert exams in June. Working locally, when The Avondhu met with the young athlete on Tuesday evening, she was just finished a shift in work and looking forward to the upcoming National Juvenile Outdoor Championships in Tullamore this weekend.
Kotryna says her mother is her big supporter. A former high-jumper, her daughter joined Fanahan McSweeney AC at the age of nine. Saying she was ‘never a runner!’ Kotryna was picked as someone who might suit the throwing disciplines (“I was tall!”), and was soon training with Finbarr McCarthy at the club’s Kilworth base.
