Walsh’s Pharmacy Fermoy, pharmacist and owner, Mike Walsh, was thrilled to receive a prestigious National Pharmacy Award last month, for services to patient care.

The National Patient Nominated Pharmacy Award 2015 was presented to Mike at the annual Helix Health Pharmacist Awards which took place on Saturday, 21st November in the Mansion House, Dublin.

The master of ceremonies on the night was the legendary broadcaster Pat Kenny, who presented Mike Walsh with his award. Mike was shortlisted for the award back in October when he reached the final three, the other two finalists being from Dublin and Cavan.

“This award isn’t just mine, but belongs to all the staff in the pharmacy …”

On winning the award, Mike said: “It was an honour just to be a selected finalist for the National Patient Nominated Pharmacist Award 2015; I genuinely did not expect to win it. This award isn’t just mine, but belongs to all the staff in the pharmacy, as they put the systems and procedures in place, to give patients the service and attention to detail they rightly expect. It is also great for Fermoy town and the surrounding areas to have received this national award”.

DUE RECOGNITION

The independent chair of the national judges for the event was Fintan Moore. Fintan described the night’s event as a great success.

“The awards serve as a great opportunity to honour some of the truly outstanding pharmacists working across the length and breadth of the country. The aim of the Pharmacist Awards is to provide an occasion that recognises the contribution of the profession to healthcare in general, as well as to celebrate and reward pharmacists and their teams”.

Awards on the night were made to pharmacists who had displayed an exceptional and constructive interest in pharmacy and have, thereby, contributed significantly to the standing of the profession. Candidates may have distinguished themselves in the practice, science, research or profession of pharmacy.

Now in their tenth year, the Helix Health Pharmacist Awards aim to celebrate pharmacy and raise awareness of the outstanding work being undertaken by pharmacists across the country, while raising funds for the Pharmacy Benevolent Fund.
