The six councillors of the Fermoy Municipal District have this week held a meeting on the pulled funding for the N72, on the main street in Fermoy, and as a result are determined to have a meeting with both the TII and the Minister for Transport, Eamon Ryan.
Speaking with The Avondhu on Wednesday afternoon, Cllr Deirdre O’Brien, the chair of the local office, spoke for all six councillors when she said they were determined ‘not to take this lying down’.
The main road in Fermoy is in a state of disrepair and calls for the work have been made repeatedly by members of the public and politicians for some time. As it is a main national route, the responsibility for funding the work is not done through the council, but through the TII. Cork County Council are responsible, however, for designing the works and employing a contractor.
