Conna and the surrounding area has a brilliant strike rate when it comes to landing feature races and ‘My Murphy’s’ recent success in the Goffs Thyestes Chase at Gowran Park triggered off massive celebrations in this racing heartland.

In the hands of top jockey, Robbie Power, the 16/1 shot showed commendable stamina to land this substantial pot. Proprietor of the aptly named Winner’s Enclosure in Conna, Cal Moroney, lost no time in organising a triumphant homecoming party for Liam and his all conquering team.

The group which included his son, Jonathan ‘Johnny’ Burke, daughter, Amy Burke, her boyfriend, Johnny Walsh, Adam Feeney, Jack Cotter, Denise Byrne, Katie Norman, Pauline Dahill and Toss Byrne were special guests at last Saturday night’s party.

The magnificent Thyestes Challenge Cup took pride of place with an orderly queue forming to be photographed with this famous piece of silverware. The big race was showed several times during the course of the evening and everyone was understandably delighted for the victorious trainer who has had a brilliant start to 2016. Hardworking and modest, Liam said he could achieve nothing without the support of owners and his loyal stable staff.

In the face of fierce competition from the country’s top trainers, Liam Burke and his team have proved once again they can deliver at the very highest level of national hunt racing.
