Tonight (Thursday), from 7.30pm until 9.30pm, the Mitchelstown Musical Society will open the doors of the Town Hall to people interested in getting involved in this year's show, 'All Shook Up'.

Last week's open night was a great success, with a number of new people interested in being part of the 2014 show.

Everyone was welcomed by the director Kevin McCormack, who was up beat and enthusiastic about the fun filled winter nights ahead rehearsing for the show.

Chairperson of the society, Maria Murphy said that they had a great turnout for the open night and that tonight, people will have another chance to meet everyone in the society, hear what it's all about and familiarise themselves with the characters and songs ahead of casting on Saturday. All of the parts will be assigned on Saturday, so if anyone wants to find out more about the show or get involved in any way, this is their chance tonight.

"While we put on the show, the whole community gets involved and last week, we had people who said they couldn't sing or dance, but offered their services, saying they could sew costumes, paint backdrops or do other small things. We are delighted that people are coming forward like this. The show and its effect is rippling out much further than the stage," Maria said.

Sarah Chamberlain and Noreen Helen in the musical department have told the members that the music will be really fun to work with, bringing a lovely rhythm to the performance.

"We were delighted that our president, Seanie Chamberlain attended the open night and he's very enthusiastic once again this year about our show," Maria added.

The story is set in a sleepy American town, using the music of Elvis Presley to complement the story line, somewhat similar to how the music of Abba was used to enhance the musical 'Mamma Mia'.

The script seamlessly mixes rock'n'roll elements with love, romance and young affections, bringing the audience closer to the characters with each swooning song and rocking anthem.

Speaking about the annual show, Maria said that the support from people in the community has always been amazing and that everyone's contribution is very much appreciated.

She stressed that the musical society is a great way to meet new people, get involved in something new and also an enjoyable and fun way to watch the cold Winter nights slip by, with rehearsals twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays from October 8, up until the performance in the new year.
