All across Mitchelstown and surrounding areas, there are young people who contribute so much to their local areas through sports, academic, voluntary or club work and in their third year, the Mitchelstown Youth Achievement Awards are calling for nominations so that these young people can be recognised for all that they do.
The awards are run by Tesco Ireland and the Mitchelstown gardai, as a way of thanking young people, who by their contribution, presence or activities, make their community a better place to live.
Last year, the number of nominations more than doubled and Tesco Community Champion, Liz Downes, said that she hopes to see more than 60 nominations this year, as friends, family members, relatives and members of the public can nominate young people who they believe deserves this award.
This year, there has been a change to the award, in that there will be two different age categories - one for those aged between 10 and 13 and another for those aged between 14 and 18. In each category, there will be a first, second and overall winner.
When nominations are being made, as much information as possible should be provided about the nominee and why the nominator thinks they deserve the award and a seconder is required for each nominee.
Application forms are available from Liz Downes at the customer service desk in Tesco Mitchelstown and also from John Hennessy in Mitchelstown Garda Station and they must be returned before the deadline on Friday, November 29. The nominees will then be invited to a ceremony in The Firgrove Hotel before Christmas, where the award recipients will be announced.
