Just before Christmas, people from Mitchelstown and surrounding areas dug deep into their purses and wallets to generously support the 24-hour stationary cycle undertaken by the Galtee Wheelers and the 'Sponsor a Christmas tree light campaign', raising funds for this year's trip to Trabolgan, run by Mitchelstown Lions Club.
Club president, Therese Horgan thanked everyone who supported both fundraisers, as well as Reidy's SuperValu and Galtee Wheelers.
From June 6-13, the Mitchelstown Lions Club in partnership with St Vincent de Paul, will take 12 people on a holiday to Trabolgan, where they will be able to meet and mingle with people their own age and swap stories and life experiences. "It is a holiday that they cherish and look forward to each year," Therese said.
She also stressed that when people donate to the Lions Club, the money collected is only used for the project it is collected for.
"No portion of the funds received is spent on administration, wages or salaries. It is a voluntary organisation and the members pay for the costs of the running of the club from their own annual membership subscription."
Money raised from the 'Sponsor a Christmas tree light' campaign also went towards the Trabolgan trip, which costs €250 per guest.
Recently, the Lions Club held a raffle for the winners of the draw from the campaign and the winners were as follows: Rachel Kinsella and Shane McNamara (won the first and second prizes of holidays to Trabolgan), third prize of a Johnson & Johnson hamper went to Eileen O'Keeffe, while Phylis O'Brien and Una McGrath both won hampers from Horgan's Delicatessen Supplies. Well done to everyone concerned.
