Mitchelstown GAA president celebrates 100 years

Jimmy Skinner, Georges St., Mitchelstown celebrated his 100th birthday on Tuesday, July 18. His late wife Patricia was also in her 100th year but died a few months ago.

A brief look back at Jimmy’s 100 years is as follows. Born in Mitchelstown on July 18, 1922 at Lower Cork Street, his father was the late James McCarthy-Skinner with his late mother being Hannah Barry, New Square.

Jimmy is nephew of the well known late Leo B Skinner who was a Solicitor, T.D. and Judge who was one of a family of 18 who played senior football with Kerry, winning 3 All Ireland SFC medals in 1909, 1913 and 1914. He then moved to Tipperary and played in the 1918 All Ireland SFC final where Wexford were winners …
