After almost three years of fundraising, great generosity and a lot of hard work, the new sensory garden for COPE Mitchelstown is finally ready for its launch.

Mitchelstown Lions’ Club, who are certainly no strangers to doing work in the local community, chose COPE Foundation as their chosen charity in 2011.

The idea to create a garden in the local COPE residence grew from the fact that despite the beautiful green area on the grounds of the house, there were no amenities for residents.

Now, after numerous fundraising events and donations from members of the public, the garden will be officially opened on Sunday, 10th August. The ceremony will take place between 2.30pm and 4.30pm, during which time a garden party will be held on the grounds.bThe official opening ceremony will begin at 3pm.

Anyone attending the event can expect to see the magnificent result of the hard work done by the Lions Club and volunteers over the past few years.

The sensory garden, which has been designed to appeal to all five senses, includes a seating area, a water feature, meandering footpaths, beautiful flowerbeds and a gazebo for residents to enjoy.

Mary B Barrett, spokesperson for the project, said that all the hard work most definitely paid off as they reached the final result.

“There was a lot of hard work involved,” she said. “But now that it is coming together, we are really enjoying it.”
