Mitchelstown chef cooks for the president

It was the opportunity of a lifetime for local chef and native of Mitchelstown, Trish Thornton Culloty when she was given the opportunity to cook for President Michael D Higgins at Liscarroll Point-to-Point Races last Sunday, as the President visited the birthplace of his mother for their annual race meeting.

Trish, who is the daughter of Ann and Joe Thornton of Ballybeg Road, Mitchelstown, was only given two days notice to prepare some tasty treats for Uachtarán na hÉireann, but said it was an opportunity she simply couldn’t turn down despite her very busy work schedule.

The owner of Catering To You, Trish has over 25 years of experience in the catering industry both in Ireland and abroad.

She found her flair for cooking as a 15 year-old, helping her grandmother Alice Keane and decided at a young age to make it her career.

She went to college in Cork and moved to England to learn her trade, becoming head chef in several top restaurants.

After the birth of her daughter Sharelle, she returned to Ireland and worked locally before establishing her own catering business with the help of her parents, husband Frank and son Scott, who is head of marketing and operations with the company.

Catering To You cater for all events big or small with dishes from around the world.

Any dietary requirements are available on request, and they also offer a crockery and cutlery service free of charge.

All food can be delivered hot or cold to your door at a time that suits you.
