A group of people from Mitchelstown have formed a branch of the Drive to Survive campaign and they will hold a race night in Mitchelstown on June 15, in a bid to raise as much as they can for Marymount Hospice in Cork.

The race night was launched on Saturday night in Jackie O'Brien's Bar, where the event will take place and committee members explained that the Mitchelstown branch was formed in February, as a group of friends wanted to join forces with the Drive to Survive campaign, to boost their fundraising and help them to achieve their target of raising €1 million for Irish hospices.

As a race night has not been held in the town for many years, it was decided that this would be a fun and unique fundraiser and the committee numbers grew every week, with Drive to Survive founder Dan Gallahue and his team giving the new branch great advice and encouragement.

"Even in these tough economic times, people's willingness to support this initiative has been phenomenal and we would like to put on record our sincere thanks to all the business and individuals that have provided sponsorship, bought a horse or given a spot prize to this deserving cause. It is still not too late to come on board and donate by contacting any committee member," one of the members said.

The first race will start at 9pm on June 15 in Jackie O'Brien's, this will be a fun event and as all information will be provided on the night, there is no need for any knowledge of horse racing and all of the money raised will go to Marymount Hospice in Cork.

On the night, Maurice Walsh will auction the races, Pat Ronan will DJ and there are a number of exceptional spot prizes up for grabs in the raffle.

Jot the date down and book the babysitter, as this promises to be a great night, which will raise money for a very worthy cause, as Marymount Hospice has touched the lives of many across the locality.
