Mitchelstown boxer Vladimir Belujsky was in Dublin last Saturday representing his college, Cork Institute of Technology, in a senior category boxing tournament and returned home victorious.

A member of Togher Boxing Club in Cork, Vladimir was going into last weekend’s encounter boxing for the first time in the senior category. His first fight of 2015 proved successful, where he fought and defeated Shane McIntyre from Golden Gloves Boxing Club, an Irish champion and a representative at the 2011 World boxing championships.

Speaking to The Avondhu this week following his most recent success, Vladimir commented, “It was a challenge and a very tough fight, but my fitness and power proved to be the key in this fight as I hurt my opponent multiple times and came out with a majority decision win over a highly ranked opponent. It was great to start off the new boxing season with a win like this”.

LOOKING FORWARD

Vladimir, a recipient of a C.I.T sports scholarship, also trains the C.I.T Boxing Club and has his sights set on some upcoming engagements, which he is looking forward to. He should be stepping into the ring again for C.I.T and the Irish Amateur Third Level Boxing Association in the next 2 or 3 weeks, as part of a team that will box against the Defence Forces and the Garda boxing teams. Then in May, he'll be flying to Swansea to box, in the company of his trainer from Togher.

Vladimir explained: “My championships are not until October so I'm trying to get as many fights as possible for now. I'm doing a lot of training to stay ready for all my fights coming up.”

Looking ahead with justifiable confidence, Vladimir wishes to thank his friends, family and boxing and fitness trainers for their ongoing help and support.
