Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Tom Hayes, has condemned the recent episode of dumping at Glengarra Wood.
In recent days, a walker discovered that a large quantity of sheet metal had been dumped at the South Tipperary woodland. It was situated about 100 metres on the right side of the forest road from the car park and was also blocking a short pathway walking loop.
The Minister condemned the act, saying that he will be speaking to Coillte officials to see what can be done to increase security in the area.
"This is a disgusting incident and we should never tolerate illegal dumping anywhere, but particularly in an area of great scenic beauty like Glengarra Wood.
"I would also like to remind people that you can report illegal dumping to a 24 hour lo-call telephone number 1850 365 121. Local authorities, the Environmental Protection Agency and an Garda Síochána will follow up on the information given.
"Information that you give can be treated confidentially although you are encouraged to give your contact details as authorities may wish to follow up with you in relation to the investigation of illegal dumping. It’s important that we take a zero tolerance approach to illegal dumping," the Minister said.
