Having the leader of a party visit any small town or village, is always a memorable day, but when Fianna Fail leader Micheal Martin took time out of his busy schedule to visit South Limerick, it was to keep in touch with what the people were saying and what issues were there on the ground.

Led through the electoral area by Galbally based councillor, Eddie Ryan, the day began by laying a wreath at the Liam Lynch monument in Anglesboro, then stopping off in Kilmallock, Knocklong, Hospital, Ballylanders and Galbally before Micheal Martin gave a speech in Anglesboro Hall on General Liam Lynch.

Speaking about the different issues which came up over the course of the day, Micheal Martin said that there are a lot of issues affecting people and one of the most prominent was that there is a need for rural Ireland to reach a point of economic recovery.

He added that with the loss of some services in different areas, people are feeling somewhat isolated.

"A lot of people didn't expect to see me, but I wanted to meet people and understand the issues on the ground," the party leader said.

Referring to Knocklong, he said that their vision for the future of the village and their plans are all achievable.

Micheal Martin added that health was a big worry for a lot of people, as a lot of people are living in fear about losing their medical cards.

Cllr Eddie Ryan who brought Micheal Martin into the area said that he was delighted that the party leader could take time out to visit the South Limerick area.

He added that in a lot of the places they went, it was the first time that a party leader had visited and he said that the day was a great success, with the talk in Anglesboro Hall being one of the highlights.
