A ‘dream horse’ was how Charlie McCarthy described Kopek Des Bordes following his win at the Dublin Racing Festival in the Tattersalls Ireland Novice Hurdle.
Joined by his four sons at the Leopardstown course, emotional scenes emerged as ‘floods of tears’ came in the wake of the win.
“When you see your sons cry, your grown sons cry, that is something you can’t buy. That is a feeling I’ll take to my grave with me. It’s unreal, it’s unbelievable, and I’ll wake up tomorrow morning and say ‘is this dream real? That I have a horse that has a very realistic chance of winning in Cheltenham?’.
“It’s very good for the boys and myself and where I come from in Fermoy, he’s the talk of the town,” Mr McCarthy told Racing TV.
