Following on from their official launch recently, the Fermoy Community Text Alert service have received 16 text alert signs thanks to sponsorship from McCarthy Insurance Group.
Over 300 families have signed up to the text alert service in the Fermoy area, being run in conjunction with Fermoy Garda Station. The aim of the service is to increase co-operation between the public and the gardaí in combating and preventing crime in the area.
Vice-chairperson of Fermoy Community Text Alert Group Noel McCarthy, said the signs will be strategically placed on the approach roads into Fermoy and the wider community.
“We hope that the signs will act as a deterrent for crime in the area. The text alert service is there to enable the public and the gardaí to co-operate in tackling crime.
“If the public see something suspicious, they are advised to contact Fermoy Garda Station and the gardaí will decide if a text alert message should be sent out to those who have subscribed to the service. This way, we can all work together to make our community a safer place to live,” he said.
If you need to report suspicious or dangerous activity, you can contact Fermoy Garda Station on 025-82100.
