MBA considers radical action for local investment

Discussions are underway among members of Mitchelstown Business Association (MBA) about potentially withholding paying business rates wholesale until essential maintenance work is completed in the town by the council.

There was unanimous approval of the move at last Wednesday’s MBA AGM and chairperson Claudia Matassa, confirmed to The Avondhu this week that another meeting will be held shortly to consolidate the opinions of business owners before making a definitive stand.

At the AGM at which about 60 people were present, questions were asked about the roadlining in the town, which is considered to very poor and shabby, the benches ‘with mould’ on them and the many dirty and weathered tourist and road signs. Ms Matassa pointed out the possibility that the council may be ‘unaware’ of their grievances, while treasurer Justin Finn wondered if Mitchelstown would be ‘left behind’.
