Having championed and educated the children of Rathcormac and surrounds for 34 years, the principal of Scoil Bhríde, Margaret Howard, has now retired.

Celebrations were held on Thursday last to acknowledge the long serving principal and her significant contribution to the school and surrounding community, as she retired just as the school broke for mid-term.

Ballyporeen native, Margaret Howard began teaching in Rathcormac in 1990, arriving in the area after marrying Rathcormac man, Michael Howard and told The Avondhu that she had always dreamed of being a teacher.

“Teaching was something I always wanted to do, from when I was a young child, and I was so thrilled when I got the opportunity to go to Mary Immaculate College and I qualified in 1983. I worked in a few other schools before I finally settled in Scoil Bhríde in Rathcormac,” she said.
