A trio of locals are taking on the Berlin marathon this September in a fundraising drive for the Jack and Jill foundation, who are providing essential and invaluable support to baby Lucia and her parents in Kilross, south-east Limerick.

Sharon Hayes (Knocklong and Garryspillane), Ben Murphy (Kilfinane) and Annie Dawson (Elton, Co. Tipperary) are running the marathon in the German capital at the end of September in aid of the children’s charity, who are supporting Sharon’s family in a very special way.

Sharon’s cousin Paul Bourke, a native of Galbally, and his wife Ashley Ryan, Tipperary, welcomed their baby Lucia into the world last October; she was born with a rare chromosomal abnormality which means that, since birth, she has effectively been in isolation and in 24-hour care with her parents and her four nurses, who are with the family via the Jack and Jill foundation.
