Professional Sports Scientist Shayne Murphy, a recent past pupil of Coláiste an Chraoibhín, returned to talk to the school community about his success on Friday, May 15.
Shayne is currently working as Lead Sports Scientist in Youth Development with Manchester City Football Club and Consultant Sports Scientist with the Welsh FA.
During his recent visit to the school he spoke to the school cohort about the importance of hard work and giving everything to achieve your goals and dreams. He gave a detailed breakdown of his time studying Sport and Exercise Science in the University of Limerick, clearly outlining the sacrifices and dedication required in order to achieve success.
He spoke of his daily work and training schedules with the Manchester City Youth Academy and his experiences working with various clubs including Liverpool, Blackburn Rovers and Cardiff.
The highlight being warming up the Cardiff first team in front of the Kop, as he has supported Liverpool since he was a child. Afterwards, the Coláiste an Chraoibhín soccer squad had the privilege of a skills session with Shayne.
Team coach Rory O’Connor said of the visit: His visit was the culmination in a very successful season for the school’s senior soccer squad and will act as a driving force for next season. The whole school community wish Shayne continued success in the years ahead and thank him for his inspirational presentation.”
