Mallow College has recently received a Centre of Excellence award for Microsoft Office Specialist, following its delivery of over 250 Microsoft Office Specialist exams. Within the last year students at Mallow College completed the Microsoft Office Specialist 2007 in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access.

As Microsoft is the number one programme in the world and Mallow College wanted its students trained and externally examined on a recognised industry wide platform.

According to Gemma Cooper, Microsoft Office Specialist co-ordinator at Mallow College, “The delivery of the programme has been positively received across the college. The students like it because it’s the latest software and they can see real advantages from it. The staff have also received it very positively, not just ICT staff, but also teaching and administration staff. They are using the software every day, so they use it to receive formal recognition and to improve their skills”.

The certification provides real benefits to the students and the North Cork County community.

Gemma Cooper says, “Earning MOS certification can help students differentiate themselves in today's competitive job market. It helps broaden their employment opportunities by proving that they have advanced skills in Microsoft Office. After gaining MOS certification, students get immediate access to a Digital Certificate and Transcript, as well as the MOS logo to put on their CVs”.

Mallow College is the first college in Cork to achieve this award.
