The effects of a major storm were felt in the area on Wednesday afternoon. Trees were toppled and localised flooding was reported.

Cork County Council’s senior area engineer Brendan O’Gorman said the flooding at various points around Fermoy was caused by blocked gullies unable to absorb the heavy rain but the stormy conditions didn’t affect the Blackwater river and up to the time of going to press, there was no need to raise the flood barrier.

The high winds which caused damage at Kent Railway Station in Cork city, brought down a number of trees around the region. A canopy over two of Kent station’s platforms was blown off, landing on and damaging a number of cars in an adjoining car park. One person was reported to have been injured.
