Loudest Whisper: Germany bound for three concerts

Fermoy group Loudest Whisper are set to take Germany by storm later this month, when they play ‘The Children of Lir’ as a Celtic opera for three very special concerts.

What began in the Palace Theatre in Fermoy on the banks of the Blackwater, now arrives in the O2 in Heidelberg on the Rhine. Having started as a musical in Fermoy back in 1973, ‘The Children of Lir’ by local band Loudest Whisper, returns as a Celtic opera in Germany for three concerts later this month.

The band will play Speyer and Weinheim on January 23 and 24, before playing in the O2 in Heidelberg on January 25. In anticipation for the upcoming performances of their trademark musical piece, two founding members of the folk/rock band, Brian and Paud O’Reilly, spoke to The Avondhu about how the concerts came about, the logistics involved and plans for the future.

LOGISTICAL CHALLENGE

Performing with a 100-strong German choir, along with a string quartet and a German narrator, the logistics of organising the concerts have not been straightforward, according to Paud.

“We’re rehearsing here in Ireland, and then what happens is we go over the day before the first concert and we’ll rehearse all day together. The logistics are ... "
