Lots of cultural offerings for locals

Fermoy and Mitchelstown hosted a range of events to coincide with Cork County Council’s Culture Night.

Fermoy and Mitchelstown hosted a range of events to coincide with Cork County Council's Culture Night. At no expense the public were treated to music, song and dance which took place at a variety of locations in both towns last Friday evening.
The excellent venue that is The Palace Theatre hosted Voce di Donna, a show that featured Fiona O'Reilly, Christina O'Flynn and Bethan Lee - voice coach Mary Curtin directed with Siobhan O'Shea in charge of choreography. Popular standards such as, 'I Know Him So Well' (Chess) and 'Send In The Clowns' (A Little Night Music) were all very well received by a knowledgeable and appreciative audience. Readers should note that Voce di Donna play The Half Moon Theatre in Cork city on Friday, 10th October at 8pm.
The Long Bar on Oliver Plunkett Hill was another Culture Night venue with poet Gene Barry and company taking up residence. The readings were relayed live on the internet. Elsewhere in the town, the Thomas Kent Pipe Band gave a recital while The Grand Hotel hosted one of their lively trad sessions.
In Mitchelstown, Culture Night had a contemporary feel to it with rap artist and DJ, Garry McCarthy spinning the discs in the town's library. Other venues included: The Ramble Inn and Corpus Christi Nursing Home while earlier in the day, the local writers group launched their anthology of stories, poems and prose entitled Mitchelstown Miscellany in Kingston College chapel.
