Locals at the National Ploughing Championships

On Tuesday, President Michael D Higgins officially opened the National Ploughing Championships in Ratheniska, Co. Laois.

On Tuesday President Michael D Higgins officially opened the National Ploughing Championships taking place in Ratheniska, Co. Laois.

They are currently the largest outdoor event anywhere in Europe with 280,000 people from across the country descending on the three-day event.

With 1,500 exhibitors showcasing everything from farm machinery, food, livestock and fashion, there’s surely something for everybody at this years championships.

The Avondhu caught up with some from this region who made the journey. Thomas Moloney from Moloney Agri and Tree Care in Clogheen left home at 6.15am to be there for the opening day on Tuesday.
