A local pig farmer has expressed his disappointment that a recently established retail outlet in the area is selling foreign pork products, using misleading labelling.

Philip O’Brien said busy customers can be tricked into thinking that they are buying Irish, while instead the product is foreign in origin and only sliced and packaged in Ireland!

He asks people to look beyond the product name, look beyond the flags and look instead for the Bord Bia Quality logo.

“This is the only way to be completely sure the product is Irish,” Philip said.

Bord Bia works to protect the Irish food industry, Irish farmers and Irish workers.

Some supermarkets are very pro-Irish produce and the Bord Bia logo is clear to be seen on many Irish pork produce in these shops.

“Teagasc has recently spent 3 million on a research facility in Moorepark to support agriculture and in particular the pig industry. When you buy Irish produce bearing the Bord Bia logo, you are supporting local Irish jobs and it is more than appreciated by all of us who are employed in this industry,” Philip concluded.
