With people back on the road in greater numbers returning to work, staycationing, or even taking road trips, much of the public are making use of their cars once again.
One new business in Fermoy is helping to ease that transition back to our vehicles and sort out anything that might need fixing.
Araglin local Lewis Mellis recently opened up shop, Mellis Motors, on Brian Boru Square at the former site of Harrington’s Garage, where he is offering servicing, repairs, diagnostics, tracking, light focusing as well as a range of other services.
“Before I opened up here, I was out in Mitchelstown in a private garage. I actually did my apprenticeship here 13 years ago and I went off to the main dealers, Audi, Nissan, Toyota and got a load of experience from there and other private garages around the place.
“Then this place came on the market, and I thought it was time to go back to my roots and open my own place up,” Lewis told The Avondhu.
CONVENIENT LOCATION
Lewis noted the ideal location of Mellis Motors, being right in the heart of Fermoy in Brian Boru Square, yet having plenty of space for business.
“People can go around the corner for a coffee or pop over to the park for a quick walk. The town is just over the road so people can get their car serviced while they’re over there, so there’s no waiting around while they’re getting the car serviced, it’s very convenient,” Lewis added.
Despite years of experience, opening his own place is a new venture for Lewis who has hit the ground running and is open for business six days a week.
When asked whether he planned to branch out further than his current business of servicing and repairs, Lewis noted that fixing cars was his ‘main go to’, however, he didn’t rule out the possibility of an expansion in the future.
“It’s cars and vans for now, I might spread out into bikes because I have bikes myself, but for now it’s mainly cars and vans for services and repairs,” he added.
Mellis Motors are open for business with local mechanic Lewis on call from Brian Boru Square in Fermoy from 9am to 6pm Monday to Friday, and Saturday mornings.
