Local golf sensation John Doyle selected for Junior Ryder Cup

Local teen, John Doyle, who has swiftly climbed the golfing ranks, has been named as the only Irish person selected for the European Junior Ryder Cup team, when they defend their title against the United States in New York from September 23rd-25th. 

The 18-year-old, who is a member of Mitchelstown and Fota Island golf clubs, will be competing alongside golfers who qualified automatically through a season-long ranking system run by the European Golf Association, and six players selected by captain Stephen Gallacher. 

Speaking with The Avondhu, John’s father, Barry, explained that his son has had an exceptionally busy season since February, and was ‘delighted’ to get the call informing him he would be competing with the European team.
