Five communities in The Avondhu readership area have been awarded funding through the Cork County Council Community Grants scheme for 2013.

The successful organisations identified to The Avondhu by Cllr Frank O’Flynn are: Ballyhooly Tennis Club €15,000 towards a new club house; Mitchelstown Community Centre €20,000 towards the new leisure centre; Kildorrery Community Development Limited €20,000 towards community park; Castletownroche Community Centre €20,000 towards refurbishment of community centre and Rathcormac Community Council €10,000 towards the lighting of the village loop walk.

Expressing satisfaction at the allocations Cllr O’Flynn said that through this funding Cork County Council continues to ‘positively influence the health and social gain of local community groups’.

“This grant aid targets voluntary and community organisations and I believe that this funding will continue to improve the range and quality of community based facilities in each locality and will contribute towards the ongoing enhancement in the quality of life of local communities in my area.”
