Four area clubs and groups have been allocated funding by Cork County Council under its Community Fund 2013.

Kildorrery Community Development Ltd. is to receive €20,000 towards the development of their community park, Mitchelstown Community Centre Ltd. was also allocated €20,000 as a contribution towards their new community centre, Ballyhooly Tennis Club will receive €15,000 towards their new clubhouse and Rathcormac Community Council is to get €10,000 towards lighting their loop walk in the village.

There were 17 applications for the funding but only those four met the criteria for infrastructural projects. When the matter was discussed at the Fermoy electoral area committee of the county council on Tuesday, members were informed that the 13 would be considered for amenity grants instead. They will be written to and informed why they didn’t meet the criteria for the community grants, which are designed for larger infrastructural projects, and it will be explained to them that they are being transferred over for consideration for amenity grants instead.

The allocations were welcomed by members. Councillor Frank O’Flynn said such funding is the catalyst that keeps those voluntary community groups going.
