‘Local businesses are not doing enough for coeliac sufferers’

The O'Neills of Clondullane: mum Catherine and daughter Ashleigh will appear on RTE's Today Show to talk about Ashleigh's coeliac disease.

Mum of two, Catherine O’Neill from Clondullane, has warned that businesses in the Fermoy area need to up their game when it comes to awareness of coeliac disease.

Catherine is a mum to coeliac disease sufferer Ashleigh (11), and James (8) who has not been diagnosed with the condition but who does display similar symptoms to his sister.

In one Fermoy restaurant, Catherine revealed, little Ashleigh was told that she had two menu options available to her while the rest of her family enjoyed a meal out: a packet of crisps, or fruit.

“It came to the point where we don’t even bother trying to go for meals out,” Catherine said. “It’s about time that businesses in Fermoy got on board with it.”
