Local artist Gerard Harris was honoured recently as his artwork was hung in the Kennedy Suite within the US Embassy in Dublin.
His poster-style illustration displays John F Kennedy, meeting and enjoying tea and cake with three women while visiting Ireland, with mountains and a traditional Irish farmhouse in the background.
Below, an inscription reads “In June 1963, John F Kennedy became the first serving President of the USA to visit Ireland, the land of his ancestors. On his four-day trip he visited many counties including Dublin, Cork, Galway, Limerick and Wexford, where he had tea on his family’s ancestral farm in Dunganstown, with his cousins the Ryan family.”
Speaking with The Avondhu, the Conna-based artist explained that the artwork first came to the attention of the US Embassy after he shared images of the piece online.
