Castletownroche had a street festival feel last weekend with the a number of well supported events taking place in the village. Proceedings got underway on Saturday evening with a fancy dress parade, led by members of the Thomas Kent Pipe Band. This was followed by music to ‘Big In Japan’. MC was Michael ‘Mick’ Linehan, who thanked everyone for taking part. Mick was joined on stage by local politicians Deputy Noel McCarthy, along with councillors, Peter O’Donoghue, Frank O’Flynn, Deirdre O’Brien and local councillor, Nelius Cotter.

Festivities continued for much of Sunday afternoon, with the centrepiece being a fundraising ball race on the Awbeg river. This, according to organising committee member, Dave Hogan, was a great success.

“This was a great financial and organisational success. The wheelbarrow race also proved very enjoyable so overall, it was a brilliant weekend in Castletownroche”, Dave told The Avondhu.
