Lismore-native Dr Florence McCarthy is among a team of scientists at University College Cork who have made a significant breakthrough in the fight against leukaemia.

Dr McCarthy currently leads a team of researchers in medicinal and pharmaceutical chemistry at UCC. In their work, the scientists sought to improve ellipticine, a molecule isolated from the berries of the Bloodhom tree.
