Mitchelstown Lion's Club this week relaunched the Message in a Bottle campaign, which gives people in the community a special place to store their personal and medical information, which they can call to hand quickly.

The initiative is supported by the emergency services and it encourages people to fill in a form and store the information in a bottle in the fridge in case of emergencies, so that somebody like a member of the fire brigade or ambulance would be able to locate them quickly, find out your basic information and see if you have any illnesses or are taking any medication.

The bottles will be available for free from the LivingHealth Clinic and also in pharmacies.

President of the Mitchelstown Lion's Club, Therese Horgan explained that these are ideal for people who are elderly, living alone or suffering from particular illnesses and she said that even when people are on holidays, people could leave these in their hotel rooms or have them in their bags. This would give members of the emergency services the information they need quickly, 'in case something happens'.
