Mr Bobby McCarthy of The Beeches Stud, Tallow received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Irish Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association Breeding and Racing Awards, which were held in the Heritage Hotel in Laois on Sat Jan 27.

Bobby, who is now 85 years old, is known far and wide for his expertise and experience in horse breeding and is the owner of The Beeches Stud which is located just a few miles from Tallow.

His son Robert now continues the family business and he is very proud of his father and all his achievements.

The Beeches Stud is on the land of the family farm and Bobby’s passion for horses began at an early age.

“It’s the family farm, it’s been in our family for 300 years,” said Robert. “It was a dairy farm and my ancestors all had horses.”
