Serious damage has been done to land, property and roads in Mocollop, Ballyduff following a major landslide and flash flood which occurred by the bridge on the R666 at Mocollop on Friday evening last.
An intense thunderstorm caused an incredible volume of rainwater to fall on Friday at around 6pm and this water came cascading with force down from the hill at Mocollop bringing with it a serious amount of trees, mud, silt and other debris.
This resulted in a flash flood at the foot of the hill on the R666 at the bridge known locally as 'the pound bridge' and the road became completely impassable for approximately an hour and a half.
The water was travelling across the road at high velocity and one resident said that the power of the water was so intense that it was nearly impossible to stand in it without losing your balance.
