“Three years ago my brother asked me to be the best man at his wedding. It was a great day. I would like him to do the same for me when I get married, right now in Ireland that can’t happen. A few days ago I was walking home when a man passed by in a car, he called out the word ‘queer’ at me. I felt sad because he thought he could call me that.”

That’s an extract from the short video posted online by Diarmuid Fitzgerald from Kilworth who has been primary school teaching in Dublin since 2008.

He goes on to declare his support for a yes vote in the upcoming marriage equality referendum on May 22nd by outlining what marriage equality would mean to him personally.
