The Killavullen Art Group, who were formed three years ago, will hold their first exhibition in Mallow Library with art works from their ten members on display. The exhibition will be launched next week, on Thursday, May 23, between 5pm and 7pm in the library with a cheese and wine reception.
The artists all come from different walks of life, with their art representing different perspectives. Two of their members, Donal Deady and Liam Browne, held their own exhibition in Charleville Library last year, which was a great success.
When they first started, they met in the community hall and when this was being repaired, they moved to the Nano Nagle Centre. But unfortunately, due to the extensive roadworks, they felt the need to move. The Mallow Art Club then took them under their wing and allowed them to attend their organised demonstrations and workshops, which was much appreciated.
Now that the Killavullen Community Centre is refurbished and back to its former glory, they meet there every Thursday and once a month they invite an established artist to give a demonstration, which is a good way for the members to learn something new and develop their creative talent.
Over the past two years, they have also produced calendars featuring their work in aid of local charities and they are hoping to do a third one for 2014.
The exhibition will run from May 23 until June 5 in Mallow Library and all are welcome.
