Kildorrery Players extend run of ‘The Year of the Gathering’

The Year of the Gathering is being extended slightly by The Kildorrery Players.

The Year of the Gathering is being extended slightly by The Kildorrery Players. They will stage a new comedy entitled ‘The Gathering’ by Michael Dennehy in the Kildorrery Parish Hall on January 16, 17, 18 and 19. This play promises entertainment and laughter all the way.

Three ageing brothers live with their sister in a pretty rundown house. They own a fine big farm; another sister lives locally with her son. The plot thickens when the only other living sister arrives from America with her two daughters. What is bringing them home all of a sudden? It turns out to be a rather unusual Gathering. The local solicitor and the local curate even get involved in the whole business.

Ted is being played by Denis Fitzgerald, Ted can be easily duped. Ned is played by Charlie Hanley, he is more perceptive than Ted. Eamon McCarthy plays the part of their brother Artie; the poor man is ‘losing out’. Their daft sister, played by Paddy Hanley has already ‘lost it’, but is quite happy in her own little world. Katty played by Eileen Harrington is a severe character, dressed in black from head to foot; she is the dread of anyone who is unfortunate enough to have to listen to her talking. She is hoping that her son, Paul Patrick, (Michael Dennehy) will inherit his uncle’s farm. The sister from America, Peggy (Tina Carton) and her two daughters Mona (Siobhán O’Donnell) and Mildred (Adrienne Fitzgerald) come to stir up trouble. Joe Sherlock, newcomer to the group plays the part of Mr Sharp. Welcome! welcome indeed also to Roger O’Donnell who is the Curate, to David Roche who is ‘the dark horse’ in the play and to Maurice Carroll who is Pete. Everyone is working hard to have the play ready on time. We are all enjoying the challenge. The characters are very entertaining, colourful and distinctive.

Tickets for the play are available at Thornhill’s Pharmacy, Kildorrery. Book in time to avoid disappointment. We even have a song written by Michael to keep you entertained between the scenes. You will witness some fine performances by all the cast. A great night out is assured.
