Travelling in style, Santa, Mrs Claus and their little elves made their way to the new community centre in Kilbehenny on Sunday last by horse and sleigh, where large crowds had turned out to greet the special visitors.

As they made their way to the grotto, which had been built especially for them, almost 150 children and their families starting queueing eagerly to see the big man himself.

To keep the adults entertained there were about thirty stalls with arts and crafts, tea, coffee and sweet treats, while face painting, a disco, colouring and many other events were also on offer. Many just caught up with local news and enjoyed the facilities that the new community centre offers.

A professional photographer was also on hand to capture the magical moment of meeting Santa in the grotto and photographs can be collected from the community office. Santa and his team will visit Kilbehenny again on Tuesday, as they will be going to Little Tots.

Kilbehenny Christmas Extravaganza committee would like to thank all of the volunteers who helped out in any way to make this event a huge success. It will be back again next year, bigger and better.

BUSY SCHEDULE

Moss Fitzgerald of the community centre committee told The Avondhu that the new centre is ideal for different events, as there are a lot of large rooms. A busy schedule is planned for the centre in the week leading up to Christmas. The Christmas dance is on Friday, December 20, with Colm Aungier and Tom Clinton playing music. Christmas bingo will be on Sunday, December 23 at 8.30pm and also on St Stephen's Day at 3pm, with lots of spot prizes and hampers to be won on both days and there will be goodies for the kids.

"Kilbehenny Community Centre committee would like to wish everyone a happy Christmas and new year and to thank all of the organisations and the people who supported and used the centre during 2013 and also The Avondhu newspaper for its excellent coverage," Moss said.
