Kilara Og U14 footballers lose out to Fermoy

Overall this was a good performance but we must start converting out chances and stop conceding soft goals if we are to progress in the championship which will be starting shortly.

Our U14 footballers played Fermoy in the league game last Saturday in Araglin. We were missing two of our older and more prominent players on the day and fielded a very young team with four U12s starting.

Fermoy started well and were soon three points to the good. We replied with a point from Eoin Carey. We were under a lot of pressure but defended very well with our full back line of Adam Carey and Cathal Donnellan clearing some great ball and Jamie Sheehan at Centre Back dominating, assisted by his wing backs Micky Gowen and Jack Casey.

Fermoy finally made the breakthrough and scored a goal. We replied with very well taken point from Jamie after a great pass from Paul Hynes. Fermoy scored the last point of the half to leave us trailing at half time by 1-4 to 0-2.

We started the second half very well and scored 2 points from Dylan Burdett and Eoin Carey. We were dominating possession at this stage with Eoin in Midfield and Jamie at centre-back working very well together. However the forwards were finding scores very hard to come by and lots of scoring opportunities were wasted. Fermoy scored a goal on the break but we replied quickly with a goal from Dylan Burdett after a great movement involving Aaron Hegarty and Johnny Tobin Allen.

A further point from Eoin left us trailing by 2 points with 10 minutes remaining. We had some very good scoring opportunities in the next five minutes but failed to register anything. With our players tiring after putting in a great team effort Fermoy scored two late goals to leave them winners on a final score line of Fermoy 4-4 to Kilara Og 1-5.

Overall this was a good performance but we must start converting out chances and stop conceding soft goals if we are to progress in the championship which will be starting shortly.

Team and scorers: Kieran Heffernan, Cathal Donnellan, Adam Carey, Micky Gowen, Jamie Sheehan (0-1), Jack Casey, Eoin Carey (0-3), Paul Hynes, Johnny Tobin Allen, Aaron Hegarty, Anthony Sheehan, Dylan Burdett (1-1), Sean Hegarty, Seamus Keane and Aaron English.

FIRST OUTING FOR U12 FOOTBALLERS

On Friday evening last we had our first competitive game as Kilara Og in the U12 football league. Kildorrery was the opponents in Araglin.

We started slowly and found the early exchanges went in favour of Kildorrery. We reorganized very quickly with a few positional changes and this brought us back into the match. At half time we were down by a point, after some very good scores and team-work.

Second half started as the first ended, with both teams exchanging points. But as the match went on Kildorrery proved to be the stronger side on the day and pulled away to win by a goal and three points. The final score read Kilara Og 3-5 Kildorrery 4-8

Given that this was our first match there is a lot of positives to be taken from the way that the whole team played, and that all the hard work is paying off. Well done lads and keep up the good work.
