Juice extraction in Kilworth – a pressing issue

Brothers Cian and Cathal O’Meara, together with family and friends, were responsible for a ‘community apple press’ operation that took place in Kilworth village last Saturday morning.

In the aftermath of what was a bumper harvest, the public were invited to bring along their eating and cooking apples for pressing – the end result was generous amounts of ‘as fresh as you can get’ apple juice.

This cottage industry is a slow but rewarding process, that requires apples to be first ‘milled’ (broken up) before the pressing process.
